When it comes to Everyday Carry (EDC), most discussions center around firearms, knives, and flashlights. While these tools are essential, there’s one critical component that many people overlook—medical gear.

The Reality of Emergency Situations
Everyday carry is all about preparedness. While carrying a handgun is an important personal defense measure, statistically, you're far more likely to need medical supplies than to draw your firearm in self-defense. Whether it’s a car accident, a workplace injury, or an unforeseen medical emergency, having the right first-aid gear in your EDC loadout can be life-saving. Seeing people post their EDC setups online without any medical gear genuinely frustrates me because it’s a crucial aspect of true preparedness.
My Personal EDC Loadout
For my latest setup, I’ve chosen to carry the Dan Wesson DWX Compact, fitted with an Impact Machine optic plate for my Trijicon RMR HD and a Streamlight TLR-7 HLX. To enhance performance, I also installed DPM Systems Recoil Reduction springs. This setup is holstered in my custom Legacy Firearms LIGHT BEARING HYPERION (IWB). One new addition I decided to try is the Ulti Clips, which provide a more secure grip onto my belt compared to traditional plastic clips. So far, I’m impressed with their stability. As far as a hand held light, my Cloud Defensive MCH 2.0 has worked flawlessly, except for the tail cap being shot a couple of months ago. Cloud Defensive customer service was helpful and sent me out a brand new one and got it back up and running. For my knife of choice, the Sniper Blade Works LPC has been a rugged non-negotiable in my EDC kit. Hefty heavy-duty blade and a comfortable, perfect contour handle for a sturdy grip. Perfect ergonomics for your hand.

Carrying Medical Gear: A Non-Negotiable
My Spiritus Systems Big Fanny Pack serves as the perfect storage for my LTD Creed EDC Medical Pouch and Stach-X EDC pouch, along with other essentials like my Ridge Wallet, Jello Sauce, Cloud Defensive MCH EDC light, and Sniper Blade Works LPC. Here’s what I keep in my med kit:
-
Chest seal
-
Compressed gauze
-
Hemostatic dressing
-
Nitrile gloves
-
Various cleaning/prep aides
-
Bandages
Additionally, my Stach-X pouch carries small medical essentials such as:
-
Various medications
-
Burn gel
-
Small bandages
I love how the Stach-X pouch secures via Velcro inside my pack, taking up minimal space while allowing me to carry a wide variety of necessary items. As the saying goes, it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
