Yes. This upper is exceptional. Until I shot it, I subscribed to the "longer is more accurate" theory. Wrong.
First, Rainier's Ultramatch uppers are 10 times more sexy looking and feeling than your HD smartphone screen makes them appear. I own a couple 18" Ultramatch uppers. One is six years old, one is nearly new. Knowing what they are capable of (sub moa), I had expectations, but not equal accuracy expectations. I connected the compact 14.5" work of art (16" total including that wicked XTC compensator) to a Rainier lower equipped with a Geissele SDE trigger - and went to work.
After trying 5 or 6 varieties of ammo that easily produced 1 moa groups, I went crazy and opened a box of 69 grain Lapua Scenar. This upper deserves it.
Even with a quartering headwind of 12+ mph, I shot a 3 round group just shy of 0.25" and a 5 round group I can almost cover with a dime. Less than one hour and 100 rounds down the pipe the thing shoots like a laser. I didn't buy it to attack 5" diameter steel plates at 500 yards, but I am eagerly looking forward to it now.
Yes, you can buy a complete rifle for the price of this beauty.
Go ahead, as long as you're not looking for something truly exceptional.
