AR10 .308 / 6.5 RIFLE - A QUICK OVERVIEW

The AR-10 is developed in 1955 and manufactured by ArmaLite, and it is considered to be the grandfather of all modern sporting rifles. The AR10, as a predecessor of AR-15, offers you more power due to the bigger size of the caliber. The standard sizes of AR10 calibers are .308 / 7.62 mm and 6.5 Creedmoor. Nowadays, we have various manufacturers that produce rifles based on the AR-10 platform. The main feature of these rifles is the fact that they are fully customizable. You can always equip your AR10 with a scope and get more efficiency. If you are a long-distance shooter or a hunter you should consider buying the AR-10.

When was AR-10 created?

The ArmaLite AR-10 rifle was introduced in 1956. It was designed by Eugene Stoner and produced by ArmaLite. The AR-10 is one of the first rifles chambered in the intermediate caliber .308 Winchester or 7.62x51mm NATO, designed to provide better long-range performance than smaller calibers used by the military at the time.

The AR-10 was intended to be a lightweight and easy-to-use rifle for the military, but it was adopted by a number of military and law enforcement agencies around the world.

If you’re looking for an AR-10 for sale, feel free to explore, compare, and purchase the model suiting your needs the most.

What is the difference between AR-10 and AR-15?

The main difference between the AR-10 and AR-15 is the ammo caliber they use.

The AR-10 is chambered in .308 Winchester (7.62.51mm NATO), while the AR-15 is chambered in .223 Remington (5.56x45mm NATO).

Also, AR-10 is larger and heavier than AR-15 because of the larger ammo.

This also affects the barrel length between these rifles. The AR-10 also has a longer barrel and overall length which makes it more accurate at longer ranges.

Are AR-10 and AR-15 triggers the same?

Despite both rifles sharing many design features, the triggers of the AR-10 and AR-15 are not exactly the same.

Both rifles use single-stage triggers, meaning there is only one stage of trigger pull before the rifle fires. However, triggers may feel different to the shooter because of a few reasons: the AR-10 trigger requires more pull weight and release of the hammer.

In addition, the triggers of the AR-10 and AR-15 may have different components and may be assembled differently. For example, the AR-10 trigger may have a different sear and disconnector than the AR-15 trigger, and the trigger spring may have a different tension.

Are AR-10 and AR-15 buffer tubes the same?

A buffer tube or receiver extension is a cylindrical tube attached to the rear of the receiver of an AR-style rifle. It houses the buffer spring, a part of the rifle’s recoil system, serving as a mounting point for the stock.

Buffer tubes of AR-10 and AR-15 have different sizes and are not interchangeable. AR-10 buffer tube has a larger diameter and longer length.

In this case, the larger buffer tube is required to accommodate the larger buffer and spring needed to manage the recoil of the .308 Winchester caliber.

Also, both buffer tubes have different thread patterns and mounting points meaning the stocks designed to fit AR-10 may not fit AR-15 and vice versa.

Are AR-10 and AR-15 charging handles the same?

The charging handle is part of an AR-style rifle used to manually load the first round into the chamber and clear any malfunctions or misfires. The charging handle is located on the upper receiver of the rifle, and it is operated by pulling it back and releasing it.

Charging handles between these two rifles are not interchangeable as they have different dimensions.

The AR-10 charging handle is larger with a longer latch, also affected by the different caliber size (7.62 NATO).

Another difference between charging handles is materials and finishes. For example, the AR-10 charging handle needs stronger and more enduring materials like aluminum while the AR-15 charging handles can be made of lighter materials.

What are the best AR-10 manufacturers?

There are lots of different manufacturers of AR-10 rifles available. The best one depends on your needs and preferences.

Here are some of the well-known manufacturers of AR-10 rifles

  1. Aero Precision
  2. Remington
  3. Sig Sauer
  4. Springfield Armory

Ultimately, the best AR-10 manufacturer for you will depend on your specific needs and preferences, as well as your budget.

How much does AR-10 cost?

The cost of an AR-10 depends on many factors: manufacturer, model, caliber, and features of the rifle itself.

Entry-level AR-10 rifles start around $700 to $800, while high-end models from some manufacturers can cost $1.500 or more.

When deciding which AR-10 to purchase, cost shouldn’t be the only factor to consider. You should include in your consideration the reputation of and reliability of the manufacturer, the performance and quality of the rifle, and the availability and cost of parts and accessories.

What AR-10 is the best?

It’s not easy to determine which AR-10 is the best as each person has different needs meaning one AR-10 may be the best choice for you, but not for someone else.

As said, the best AR-10 rifle will depend on your needs and preferences. And of course, the budget.

Some factors to consider when choosing an AR-10 rifle include

  • Manufacturer: The reliability and reputation of the manufacturer should be a key consideration when choosing an AR-10 rifle.
  • Caliber: The caliber of the AR-10 rifle is an important factor to consider. The most common caliber is .308 Winchester (7.62 NATO) but there are other calibers like 6.5 Creedmoor and .338 Federal.
  • Features: Some features to include when purchasing an AR-10 are the type of barrel, the type of stock, the type of sights, and the presence of additional accessories or attachments.
  • Price: Look for models that offer good value for the price, but this shouldn’t be the most important factor to consider. Pay attention to the quality and performance of the rifle before the price itself.
